by telluride

*Planet Bluegrass has announced additions to the line-up for the 2009 festival. Here's the latest -

Check it out at!*

*1) Three Girls & Their Buddy - a songwriter in-the-round set with Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Buddy Miller. All 4 of these artists are long-time friends of the festival. Shawn first wowed the Telluride audience in 1990, Patty last played in 1997.

2) Works Progress Administration - a new LA supergroup made up of Glenn Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek), Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), Luke Bulla (Jerry Douglas Band), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), Greg Leisz (Lucinda Williams, Bill Frisell), Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello & The Imposters), and Davey Faragher (Cracker, The Imposters). Good stuff.

3) Greensky Bluegrass - One of the fastest rising starts in the newgrass/jamgrass scene. Since winning the Telluride band contest in 2006, the Michigan quartet has added a fifth member - longtime Durango-based dobro player Anders Beck.

4) Lovell Sisters - 3 sisters from Georgia (ages 17 to 22) who are great pickers, great singers, and full of youthful sass. Rebecca Lovell (mandolin) was the first woman to win any of the Merlefest instrument contests. *

*Here's the single-day lineup:*

*Thursday, June 18 David Byrne | Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band | Three Girls & Their Buddy | Peter Rowan | Zac Brown Band | The Lovell Sisters | Jerry Douglas & Tim O'Brien

Friday, June 19 Railroad Earth | Elvis Costello & The Sugarcanes | Béla Fleck & Toumani Diabate | Jenny Lewis | John Cowan Band |The Greencards | Crooked Still | Blue Canyon Boys

Saturday, June 20 Gaelic Storm | Sam Bush Band | Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson | Telluride Troubadour | Yonder Mountain String Band | Jerry Douglas Band | Punch Brothers Play & Sing Bluegrass | Greensky Bluegrass

Sunday, June 21 Telluride House Band | Emmylou Harris | Tim O'Brien | Todd Snider | The Steeldrivers | Works Progress Administration | Mike Farris & The Roseland Rhythm Revue*

*In addition, Planet Bluegrass just confirmed that Elvis Costello's band, The Sugarcanes, will be totally all-star: Jerry Douglas (dobro), Jim Lauderdale (guitar/vox), Mike Compton (mandolin), Stuart Duncan (fiddle, banjo), Dennis Crouch (bass), Jeff Taylor (accordion). That's a bluegrass lineup rivalled only by the Telluride House Band!

Locals' discount tickets are on sale now through the end of the month exclusively at Telluride Music. Passes are $170 - a $15 discount from the regular 4-day price. Purchasers must show proof of address in the 81435 zip code.*

March 10, 2010
The festival is built around the many artists that have defined the Telluride Bluegrass sound. The weekend is sprinkled with inspired sets from Peter Rowan, John Cowan, Sam Bush Band, Béla Fleck. Del McCoury returns to Telluride to celebrate his 50th year in the music industry. Yonder Mountain String Band celebrates their 11th year; Leftover Salmon celebrates their 20th year as a band - a band that formed in the Town Park campground jams of Telluride Bluegrass.
