UPDATED: One Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting in West End

MONTROSE COUNTY – An officer-involved shooting occurred following a traffic stop on Hwy. 145 in the West End of Montrose County Thursday morning, with one person being airlifted to a hospital.

Tryllen Richards, 32, of Naturita, was taken to St. Marys hospital in Grand

Junction for treatment of a single gunshot wound.

Ashley Ware, 25, was arrested after the incident on a warrant out of Montrose

Associate Court for failure to appear, and Mechelle Lee, 33, was arrested on a warrant out of Montrose Combined Courts for failure to appear.

There were no serious injuries to deputies, according to Bobbie McCoid, public information officer for the MCSO.

According to McCoid, the incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. when a sheriff’s deputy was conducting a traffic stop. Deputies reported that shots were fired and requested medical response and a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Hwy. 145 at mile marker 106 was closed for a prolonged period of time on Thursday due to the ongoing scene investigation. 

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 7thJudicial District Critical Incident Team are conducting the investigations.

– An officer-involved shooting occurred following a traffic stop on Colorado State Hwy. 145 in Naturita Thursday morning; one person was airlifted to a hospital.

There were no serious injuries to deputies, according to Bobbie McCoid, public information officer for the Montrose County Sheriff's Office.

According to McCoid, the incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. when a sheriff’s deputy was conducting a traffic stop. Deputies reported that shots were fired, and requested a medical response; a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Hwy. 145 was reopened to two-lane traffic Thursday afternoon.
