Editor:

The rantings and ravings from the right go on with no sound basis for the blather. Socialism?   Sharing the wealth?  They perseverate on the idea that 50 percent of the working class do not pay taxes.  According to Citizens for Tax Justice twenty-six major corporations paid no federal income tax between 2008 and 2011. Facebook did not pay one penny’s worth of taxes in 2012. Its tax refunds will total $429 million. Worried about socialism? I should think you’d be concerned about a corporate takeover.

Regarding “taxpayer funded abortion on demand,” the Hyde Amendment, passed in 1976, prohibited federal dollars from being used to pay for abortions, as does HR 3 (2011).  The Affordable Care Act prohibits the use of federal taxes for abortions. Just the facts. No more lies!

Planned Parenthood’s focus is healthcare for women who cannot access health care. Abortions account for less than 3 percent of the services they provide.  Calling it a “murderous organization” is another gross exaggeration.

Marriage has been an “institution” for 4,350 years. Men owned women and could discard them if they didn’t bear a son. Marriage was a social necessity to insure that offspring were the sire’s and they’d be cared for.  I don’t think the Creator had anything to do with the institution of marriage.  It’s a societal necessity, not a rite of “God.”  By today’s standards it’s a ceremony of commitment between two people.  Why not between two people of the same sex?

The Bible is rife with violence, murder, war, sexuality. I think it is foolish to blame today’s violence on the lack of prayer in the schools. Our country is so hung up on success that our children have become second thoughts. Put family first again, and the violence will dissipate.
