Have you hugged your firefighters today?
Did you know that the firefighters who responded to the Baked in Telluride fire are all UNPAID volunteers? These 53 men and women, who fought the fire all night and the next day and the next day, are all thoroughly trained professionals. Almost all of them have Firefighter I or higher certification that would qualify them to get a job on any big city fire department. They all put in hundreds of hours of training and respond to hundreds of emergency calls each year. Hopefully they will never have to show up in your driveway or at your business, but if they do, you are in the best hands!
Imagine the cost to our taxpayers if we had to fund a department of paid firefighters. Our region is very fortunate to have these unpaid professional volunteers. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their devotion to maintaining our safety. Next time you see a firefighter, buy them a cup of coffee, or lunch, or a drink, and thank them for all that they do for us!
All the Best,
