According to Ouray County Sheriff Junior Mattivi, part-time Ouray resident George Munzing was driving down the road in his vehicle, and pulled over to let a tour Jeep pass in the opposite direction. The wheels of his pickup truck slipped off the shoulder of the road, and he rolled it up to two-and-a-half times before it came to a rest upside down, with the Munzing pinned underneath the cab.
“It could have been a whole lot worse,” Mattivi said. “All things considered, he was pretty lucky. He only went down 25-30 feet.”
The Ouray Mountain Rescue Team and an extrication crew from the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and helped to remove Munzing from underneath the vehicle and transport him to a waiting ambulance nearby.
“We conducted a short raising operation, making sure the patient was securely packaged and had a comfortable ride to the hand-off with Ouray County Emergency Medical Services,” said OMRT Lieutenant Cory Jackson, who responded to the scene.
