Along with the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee, the commissioners and County Administrator Connie Hunt and Fairgrounds Manager Susan Long have been working on the master plan update for over a year. It is designed to take the fairgrounds and the 4-H Event Center through the 2020. A presentation of the proposed revisions will be reviewed at this meeting with a question and answer period to follow.
Work to amend the current Fairgrounds Master Plan of 2000 to 2004 began in April 2010, when a process for amendment was approved by the commissioners.
According to Long, the need to amend the 2000 Fairgrounds Master Plan became apparent in many aspects due to the fact that the 4-H Event Center had not been built. By 2010, the diverse of use of the Fairgrounds and the 4-H Event Center required new goals and objectives The commissioners directed review, input, recommendations and additions for the amended Fairgrounds Master Plan, working with the Council, an appointed board comprised of various Fairgrounds and 4-H Event Center user groups and municipalities, and with the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ouray Chamber Resort Association.
In February, Long presented an initial draft for the 2010 to 2020 Fairgrounds Master Plan to the commissioners as well as the Ridgway Town Council.
Long said she is pleased with the cooperative spirit exhibited by all members of the Advisory Council, the Town of Ridgway and the commissioners.
“We have been working on this project for a little over a year, and it has been a great experience watching this Fairgrounds Master Plan come together,” Long said. “Each time the FAC meets, more details are refined, and suggestions or problems are considered with intelligence and clarity. I look forward to completing the Master Plan amendment process so that once the plan is in place, we can get started on achieving the goals of the Fairgrounds Master Plan 2010-2020.”
After Monday’s public hearing, the Advisory Council, Long and Hunt will review the public input and begin the process for a final draft to be presented to the commissioners for adoptions sometime this summer. There will also be a final draft presentation to Ridgway Town Council.
