OURAY – Weehawken Creative Arts’ fabulously popular dance program for children and adults is back for another round of classes. Starting Sept. 8, students young and old will be able to choose from an array of classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern, and even Celtic dance, hosted in both Ouray’s Wright Opera House and the Ridgway Integrative Movement Center.

During this 11-week semester, students will learn skills and techniques in accordance with the level of class that they sign on for. They’ll then put the skills and techniques to work by learning basic choreography that will be applied to a final performance, The Nutcracker Sweets, on Dec. 5-7.

Several new dance opportunities will debut this semester, including more workout classes for adults (hip hop, jazz workout, modern workout, partner dance, and adult tap workout), a pointe class, Celtic dance, and company classes.

Company classes will provide more performance opportunities for dancers. Each week, students will learn different choreography and will then use that choreography to perform at local functions in the area. Company dancers will also perform in their own showcase in February 2009.

Celtic dance, also known as Irish step dance, is Weehawken’s newest class genre offered. Made popular by Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, Celtic dancers stand very straight with arms tightly held at their sides while performing intricate foot movements.

Instructors this semester include Artistic Director Natasha Payeatte and her sister, Stormy Payeatte.

Since classes begin the week of Sept. 8, students are encouraged to register right away with Weehawken Creative Arts. Registration forms and detailed information can be found at www.weehawkenarts.org or by calling Ashley King at 970/318-0150.
