OURAY – A fundraiser is planned for Saturday, Jan. 18 in Ouray at Cavallo’s Restaurant from 6-9 p.m., to benefit the families of Nick Cappanno and Rick Williams, the miners who died in an accident involving carbon-monoxide poisoning at the Revenue-Virginius Mine in November 2013.

Food will be donated from several restaurants in Ouray and throughout the region, including the Buen Tiempo, the Goldbelt Bar & Grill, Applebee’s, Chili’s, and the Olive Garden. The menu includes a spaghetti dinner, plus a variety of appetizers and snacks, with beer from the Two Rascals Brewery and the Colorado Boy. There will be a cash bar.

In addition to dinner, there’s a silent auction of items donated by businesses and individuals across the Western Slope, and live music from Susan Walton and Mark Berenson. Silent auction items include a beautiful handmade quilt, a tent from Seek Outside, photography packages, wine, locally distilled liquor and much more.

Admission – $20 for adults and $10 for children – includes unlimited food and, for those of age, unlimited beer. All proceeds will be split between the families of Rick Williams and Nick Cappano. Ouray resident Bekah Ficco, who has organized the event, hopes that plenty of people will “come out and support a great cause.”

Admission to the fundraiser, and silent auction purchases, must be made by cash or check only. It is not too late to donate food or silent auction items for the fundraiser. Please contact Bekah Ficco at 970/901-2120 or Zach Ficco at 970/901-2126. Monetary donations can also be made directly to funds benefiting the deceased miners’ families.
