Gaita Brings Home a Long-Jump Medal

OURAY – Ouray senior Jaxon Gaita brought home a medal and the sole team point for the Ouray/Ridgway track and field squad from last weekend’s state meet at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood.

Gaita finished 9th in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 6.75”. Last year at state Gaita leapt 17’ 9.5” to finish in 13th place.

Also participating in this year’s final meet was Ridgway sprinter Jasmin Braund, who finished 15th with a Personal Record time of 13.41 seconds for the 100m dash. In 2011, Braund landed in 17th with a time of 13.86 sec.

And finally, discus thrower Kyle Cotton spun the disc 121’ 2” to finish in 11th place.

The top 18 times and distances among Colorado high schoolers are invited to the year-end championship meet.
