RIDGWAY – Telecommuting ad man Brian Scranton and his company, GrahamSpencer, won 16 ADDYs last month at a regional competition sanctioned by the American Advertising Federation.

GrahamSpencer’s web campaign for the Rockford (Ill.) Area Convention and Visitors Bureau took Best of Show Overall.

Called “Hideaway in Rockford,” the promotional video series riffed pointedly, and humorously, on last year’s political crisis in Wisconsin, in which Democratic state senators “hid out” across the border in Illinois. The videos went viral, garnering several hundred thousand viewings.

Scranton is managing director of GrahamSpencer, which also has offices in Rockford and Hoboken, New Jersey. “We work with great clients,” he said in a release announcing the awards. “They allow us to push the limits of strategic thinking and creativity, which makes our job so much more fulfilling – and fun.”

Scranton told The Watch that the regional winners were announced at a gala at Northern Illinois University, February 29. Regional winners go on to Districts and then Nationals later this month.

Among its record-setting haul of ADDYs, GrahamSpencer also took home the Best of Show Print for its promotion of singer-songwriter Paul Thorn’s benefit concert for Severson Dells Nature Preserve in Illinois.

The winning work spanned multiple media, taking home awards in the Collateral,

Interactive, Radio, Mixed-Media, and Self-Promotion categories.

Scranton’s partner, co-founder and co-creative director Jay Graham, commented, “Being recognized by our peers for our creativity is an honor and we very much appreciate the judges’ approval of our work. But the best honor is when our client/friends keep coming back because that work is effective in helping them succeed.”
