“The Mountain Village Farmers and Artists Market can be a great way to enhance the town’s sense of community and vibrancy and create local tradition,” Community Development Director Chris Hawkins said in a press release. “Also, the market will provide an avenue to support regional and local businesses that offer homegrown and homemade products. With that being said, the market is not intended to compete with the Telluride Farmer’s Market, but rather compliment it, while also bolstering foot traffic through Mountain Village Center and its businesses.”
Future markets are scheduled in conjunction with the Sunset Concert Series and certain festival weekends: on Wednesdays from 2 to 7 p.m. in July and August, plus Saturday July 2, Saturday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept.17. Saturday markets will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Goods will run the gamut from handcrafted soaps and ski care products to jewelry, candles and candle holders; and from fresh produce, meats, seafood to wine.
Filled on a first-come, first-served basis, the town is still accepting applications from vendors who would like to sell homemade goods or homegrown foods. No prepared foods will be accepted except from vendors who have an existing restaurant or café in Mountain Village. At least 20 spaces per market date are available, and vendors may purchase a 2011 Mountain Village Business License and space in all 12 of the season’s markets for just $50.
