OURAY – Cold beers, hot brats and polka fun – it’s all on tap Saturday, Oct. 5, when Ouray hosts its annual Oktoberfest Celebration and 49th Annual Jeep Raffle.
This year’s Oktoberfest celebration kicks off Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Ouray Community Center (and outside on 6th Ave.), with the return of the ever-popular Austrian Connection band. The festivities include live music for dancing, great door prizes, a traditional German costume contest, a stein hoisting competition and children’s activities. Proceeds from the child care area go to the Ouray High School French Club. Children will be provided with games, crafts, movies and guaranteed fun.
Get your taste buds ready for a German dining experience. Food and beer will be available for purchase inside and outside; 2 Rascals, the Ouray Brewery and Ouray Liquors will provide beer and wine. Food, including a children’s menu, will be brought to you by the Goldbelt, and the Ouray Women’s Club will provide delicious homemade desserts – and caramel apples, too.
This year’s winner will be announced at the event, at 9 p.m. Raffle tickets are still available at participating shops, galleries, and lodging facilities in Ouray, or (prices are one for $5, three for $10 and seven for $20) online at www.ouraycolorado.com.
The raffle, with its lure of a new Jeep Wrangler, supports student scholarships, fireworks displays in Ouray, the purchase of next year’s raffle Jeep and community events. All Jeep owners and fans are invited to bring their Jeeps to park along Sixth Avenue and Main Street in support of the event. Show off your stock or custom, new or old, pristine or well-traveled Jeep.
The evening ends with a bang, when the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department shoots off fireworks immediately following the raffle drawing.
Tickets to Oktoberfest are available at the door – $10 for adults (with a complimentary beer mug), $5 for students and children 12 and under free.
