On Oct. 4, 2008 at 10 a.m., Ouray will host the first annual Ouray Mountain Trail Run. This is a 14-mile endurance race that utilizes our fine trail system and will have the runners circumnavigate the entire city. This has been a grassroots effort from several local citizens in the hopes to encourage more “athletic tourism” in our town.
This race has been made possible by the generous donations of several area businesses as well as national sponsors that also share this vision. We would like to thank the Comfort Inn, The Ouray Chalet, Ouray Mountain Sports, Citizen’s State Bank, The Box Canyon Lodge, The Tisdel Law Firm, La Sportiva, Hammer Nutrition, Colorado 500, Outdoor Research, Arriva, Ouraynet, Ouray County Historical Society, and OCRA for their support of the inaugural race.
The board has applied for not for profit 501(c) status and has determined that money raised from the race and future races will go to fund local youth organizations.
The race will start and finish in the Hot Springs Park and we are encouraging citizens of Ouray County to come out and support these runners during the first race. We would love to show the participants what a great community we have here.
We still have space available for runners, so locals you can register at the Hot Springs Park on Friday, Oct. 3 from 6-7 p.m. and the morning of the race from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
We hope to see you there!
