Peter Lauterbach died May 21, 2013, of complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He is survived by his wife, Teresa Lauterbach, of Telluride; a son and a daughter from a previous marriage, Peter Lauterbach of Glen Ridge, NJ and Lisa Laskin of Cambridge, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
Teresa and Peter, following twenty years of vacationing in Telluride, moved there in the autumn of 2007. His children and their families were regular visitors to Telluride. His four grandchildren were all active in the ski and snowboard schools there.
Following graduation from Dartmouth College in 1956, Peter spent three years on active duty with the United States Navy as a lieutenant (JG). He then joined Procter & Gamble, where he held various management positions until his retirement in 1993.
Throughout his life, Peter was active in fundraising for educational and other nonprofit organizations. For the last 29 years, wherever he lived, Peter was active in local Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous programs. For the last two years of his life, Peter attended meetings in his wheelchair with the aid of friends, A lifelong sailor and skier, he was delighted to join some of those friends in a run this past April, with the help of the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program.
