After Panucci's fall, just before 4 p.m., coworkers called 911. First responders arrived on the scene at 4:19 p.m., in a relief effort that included “Sheriff’s Office deputies, San Miguel County Coroner’s Office, Telluride Fire Protection District Fire and EMS personnel, San Miguel County Public Information Officer Jennifer Dinsmore said in a press release issued Tuesday.
“Hazardous weather appears to have been a factor in the cave-in,” she added.
“Severe lightning activity impeded the rescue of the victim, [and] due to unsafe weather conditions, emergency responders were unable to reach him in time” to save Panucci, who was pronounced dead by San Miguel County Coroner Emil Sante Tuesday, July 12, at 12:30 p.m.
Panucchi is survived by his wife, Brenda; their son, Roy, and daughter, Stephanie Jacobs.
