The Durango Funk Allstars
Rightfully stretching beyond just a single night of wardrobe revolution, the Halloween season continues to bring about an anticipated stretch of music-driven parties. Bands across the country use the holiday as an excuse to shift into thematic alter egos, and even channel the bands that inspire them with full “costume” shows. Cover bands thrive, and bands that would never play those songs they secretly love can get away with it. The Western Slope is no exception, and keeping pace with the larger live music metagame offers up a deep lineup of ways to get your groove going this weekend.

The brand new Animas City Theater will celebrate its first Halloween with help from local headliners the Durango Funk Allstars. Opening with some trailer park Americana will be the Lawn Chair Kings. If you fall in love with them after too many Budweisers, catch up with them a week later at the Last Dollar in Telluride.

In Ridgway the place to be on Halloween night is the Trail Town Still with DJ Funk O Delux spinning tunes for the Halloween Freak Show. Or shoot up the road and break out your best undead moves for the Zombie Dance Party at the Mesa Theater in Grand Junction. The Last Chance in Gunnison has been stacking their local lineup lately. Hometowners the Mahogany Splinters will take a play on words in the right direction by dishing out an entire set of alt-rock gods Ween.

Rest, recover, and then get right back into it with the return of the Damn Quails to the Turn of the Century Saloon on Friday night. Earlier this year they packed out the same room, making this is a must see show for anyone in Montrose. The Turn Of The Century will also offer up the 27th Annual Stupid Band Halloween Show the next night with a lucrative costume contest in the mix.

If you still want more, but of a different variety, the aforementioned Animas City Theater will host a belly dancing show turned dance party called Gothia, and the Last Chance hooks up the Halloween Safari Party with DJ/drummer duo Meow Howl on Saturday night.
