38th Annual Ski Swap: Saturday 9-4 at the Library’s Garage

TELLURIDE – Skis, poles, boots, bindings, hats, mittens, jacket, snow pants –  that’s just some of the equipment required to enjoy Telluride’s beautiful ski mountain! Skiing takes a lot of expensive equipment, but thanks to KOTO’s annual ski swap Saturday at Wilkinson Public Library parking garage,  9 a.m.-4 p.m., locals can stock up.

"The great thing about the ski swap in Telluride is that we have a lot more locals bringing their gear in,” said John Cooper, longtime KOTO volunteer and frequent ski swap shopper. “It’s more of a swap and an exchange than in some other communities where stores sell their excess merchandise that hasn't sold.”

At last year’s swap, Cooper walked away with good quality skis and bindings for less than $100, which he says he frequently used last season while skiing his favorite trail, Kant Mak’m.

Those with items to sell should stop by the KOTO headquarters on North Pine Street and for one tag for each item offered for sale.

KOTO is still looking for volunteers to help staff the swap.

“In addition to getting that warm, fuzzy feeling from volunteering, volunteers will get fed with one meal a day and they’ll get access to the pre-sale that happens on Friday evening at 8 o’clock,” said ski swap coordinator Jumpin’ Jan

Items not sold at the swap go to KOTO’s After the Swap Swap on Friday, Nov. 15, with proceeds earmarked for the Telluride School Ski Program. Those wishing to donate unsold gear to TSSP can write that on their sales tag.

The ski swap will also feature silent auctions of golf passes for the 2014 season at the Telluride Golf Club (valued at $190 per pass) and meals for four at Siam in Telluride and Siam Talay in Mountain Village. The Telluride Ski Resort will be selling season passes and tickets at discounted rates.
