MOUNTAIN VILLAGE – One of the Mountain Village core’s most prestigious boutique hotels will open this month under the new ownership of the Telluride Ski and Golf Co.

The move to purchase the 32-unit hotel from previous owners Ektornet (the current owners of the Hotel Madeline, which is the official hotel of Telluride Ski and Golf) was prompted by the company’s desire to see the property maintain its status as a high-ranked hotel, explains Telluride Ski and Golf Co. Executive Vice President Jim Mikula.

“We wanted to make sure it stayed in local hands and also remained as a hotel,” Mikula said of the company’s decision to enter into the bidding process, noting that other interested purchasers expressed a desire to redevelop the property as private residences.

The Inn at Lost Creek, which was recently ranked No. 20 out of the top 50 hotels in the U.S. and Canada in Condé Nast’s Traveler Reader's Choice Awards, has consistently garnered top awards as a leading small hotel. Although it is petite, with only 32 well appointed suites that range from studio-size to two-bedroom condos, the Inn at Lost Creek has had a strong influence in attracting tourism to Mountain Village.

“It’s amazing how much publicity that little hotel has garnered over the years,” Mikula said, adding that Telski’s intention is to insure that the quality and rankings the property has achieved over the years is maintained or improved upon.

“We’re not planning any changes; it’s a successful little hotel that has its niche in the market,” he said.

Before being hired by Telski, Mikula was the managing director for both the Inn at Lost Creek and the Hotel Madeline.

Some current Inn at Lost Creek employees will remain at the hotel, while others plan to continue working for Ektornet at the Hotel Madeline.

The ski area operator’s purchase of the hotel comes after it took over operations of the Telluride Conference Center last fall, a move that was intended to streamline marketing and group sales efforts for Mountain Village and the ski resort.

The Inn at Lost Creek is slated to open for the summer season on May 24.
