January reflections brought time to recognize and acknowledge some of the amazing angels that fly in and around our community. Every year our hearts swell in realizing the loving community effort to provide holiday Angel Baskets for families in need.  Much gratitude and appreciation goes out to the year-round Angel Basket Board of Directors who coordinate to make this all happen so gracefully: Debbie Bailey, Pam Bennett, Barb Gross, Jane Hardman, Kathy Mahoney, Camille Price, and Nancy Talmey. Nancy has been an amazing gentle force in leading the team forward in the last few years.   And thanks to the original founder Davine Pera; and to Lyla Kirsch who kept the lifeblood going for so many years.

I did not realize just how much this wonderful crew does all year-every year. So I did a little research.  Besides continuing the very successful Angel Baskets program each December (which is many months in planning), they stock three regional food banks in Telluride, Norwood and Dove Creek/Egnar; distribute a mix of backpacks, gym shoes and school supplies to children in four school districts: Paradox Valley, Norwood, Nucla/Naturita and Telluride; provide food gift certificates to seniors in need in San Miguel and the west end of Montrose; and assist seniors in the west end with prescription co-pay funds.

Gratitude and thanks also go out to committee members for their time and energy toward the Angel Basket holiday program: Andi Alexander, Ann Brady, Sheila Davis, Nancy deCastro, Lori Demarais, JoJO DeSantis, Kathy Francis, Lael Fruen, Cindy Greenwood, Carol Kammer, Diane Kipfer, Pam Masters, Tammy Rowe, Kandy Shugars, Jane Watenpaugh, Valerie Yindra, and Laura Ackerson Robuck.

A shout-out of gratitude also to the many local businesses who continually support Angel Baskets with donations of food, clothing, gifts, or free space. The Marshal's Department hosted Toys for Tickets.  The Library hosted Food for Fines. The realtors held a food drive.  And, of course, there are all of the good souls who contribute time and/or money, or adopt an angel and purchase a gift request each December.

Thank you angels for this big-hearted community effort that we are all blessed to experience. Telluride loves!

With gratitude to the Angels!
