MONTROSE – Montrose Police believe the victim in a Tuesday afternoon shooting suffered a gunshot wound that was either "self inflicted or accidental," and are urging residents to respect the family's privacy.

Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to a 911 call at 1:30 p.m. at 3200 Ravens Crest Dr. in Montrose after reports of a woman who suffering a gunshot wound to her arm. Police with automatic weapons swarmed the house, and found a woman shot, according to Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn.

The victim was transported to Montrose Memorial Hospital at about 1:43 p.m. Police released the victim's name, but due to privacy policies, the Watch has opted to not publish her name.

Montrose Police Cmdr. Gene Lillard said the victim was interviewed and issued a citation for making a false police report, a class-three misdemeanor.

"There were details that were inconsistent with what had really transpired at the scene," Lillard said.

Lillard is not concerned about the possibility of an armed suspect on the loose.

"We believe there is no man on the loose at this time," he said.

An officer of the Montrose Police force lives in the home where the shooting occurred, with his wife and children; Chinn said no family members were at home when the shooting incident occurred.
