Montrose County Costs in Jetaway Suit Continue

MONTROSE – Montrose County is seeking $57,887 in court costs from its most recent victory in the JetAway Aviation battle.
The county filed a bill of costs with the courts on April 11 that included court fees and charges, as well as $10,290 in travel expenses, according to the filing.
These expenses, however, don't come close to the more than $1.78 million in legal services the county has already accrued since 2005, defending itself in its battle with the upstart aviation company.

The battle began when Montrose County awarded Black Canyon Jet Center the fixed-based operator contract at the Montrose Regional Airport that same year; subsequent suits filed by JetAway in the matter were denied, in both district and federal court, as were the two complaints against the county filed with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Co-defendant Black Canyon Jet Center also filed a bill of costs for $14,954. And former County Commissioner Bill Patterson, who was named in the case, will get no reimbursements for his as travel expenses, which do not qualify for reimbursement.
In the 2008 district court case, JetAway has been ordered to pay costs of around $250,000.

JetAway is appealing that ruling, however, claiming it should have to pay, at most, about $145,000. That hearing is scheduled for April 19-20.
