I wanted to let Norwood and surrounding communities know that I will be offering yoga classes at ACE starting October 1.
Yoga is for everyone. It doesn't matter what kind of shape or health you might be in, what kind of disability you have or if you've ever done any kind of stretching before; Yoga is for everyone. I began twenty years ago after suffering for far too long from migraines. I was stiffer than a board, but after a year's worth of work, I no longer suffered from migraines, and my health in general was a hundred times better. Yoga can help you lose weight, boost your immune system, and help lower blood pressure among many other things. Studies are showing that it also helps with diabetes. Don't let an advanced posture stop you from taking a yoga class.
Yoga isn't about doing the perfect posture. Yoga postures are doorways that you can walk through. We can have a final idea of what we wish to achieve in each posture, but the actual journey towards that goal is where all the wonderful growth is. Yoga is about learning how to honor yourself by listening to your body, and instead of forcing yourself into a pose, learning how to work with your body into it. In each class I will present beginning and intermediate versions of a posture, and I will also help you use modifications if you struggle with a pose. There is always a way!
Regular classes will be on Tuesday's and Thursdays at 10am and 7pm both days at ACE (The Livery) in Norwood and last for one hour. October 1st and 3rd the classes will be free as an introductory gift to the community. You will need to bring a yoga mat, blocks and a blanket to each class. You can get the mat and blocks at Walmart, Target or Natural Grocer's in Montrose and of course on Amazon.com.
I will also be offering a free Chair Yoga class each Wednesday for anyone over the age of 65, suffering from an illness, or recovering from an illness. Each class will be 35 minutes long and consist of very simple poses that will create flexibility, strength and balance all done in or with a chair. You will gain all of the positive effects from a regular yoga class such as flexibility, reduction of stress, improved circulation, and a boost in your immune system. I will need to know of any health issues you might have prior to class, so I can make sure you don't do any poses that might be contraindicated for your condition. All you will need to bring to class is yourself and a rolled up blanket.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions at all. My number is 970/708-1966, and remember wherever you are, it is the perfect place to start.
