liketheriver,

I can appreciate your comment about Alabama being first in the SEC in time of possession. That fact alone may be the only reason Alabama has a small shot to even compete against pretty boy Tebow. (Did you know he might even pass up the NFL to be come a doc? What a guy.)

There is a reason that every reputable news organization (ESPN, The Onion and The Watch) have kissed slimy gator ass. Its simple really. Anyone with a good sense for the gridiron can see that Florida's offense is unstoppable right now. And unfortunately for you, that gator train is going to keep on rolling...and roll through that Tide they will.

Alabama is all around solid, I agree. Alabama is also physical. But they have been physical against slack-assed teams up until this weekend, which is where I see the crack in Alabama's armor.

The best compliment I can pay Alabama right now is that they have stayed away from injuries better than any team I have seen in recent memory (which is very short.) As Pete Thamel put it on the New York Times, the Tide's biggest weakness going into this year appeared to be depth.

"Alabama had recruited enough good young players to fill needs. But what would happen if someone go hurt? Alabama has lost five starts to injury this season. That’s not starters, that’s starts."

Now, this is very commendable, in fact, I believe the Broncos should hire the Tide's strength and conditioning coach next season. My point here is that the Tide has no dept and when Florida smacks them in the mouth this weekend, its only going to go downhill for the Crimson Tide.

I feel for you liketheriver as I am saying all of this not as a Florida fan and with a clear head. I am seeing the trees through the forest in all of this. You, my friend, have emotions and pride at stake, which worries me a bit. Sometimes you have to put emotions aside to think clearly about this weekend's game.

Gus,

Compete? I'll be the first to say this will be the toughest game the Tide has played all year and I realize you're not a gator fan, but I still find it hard to believe you still think Florida "will win and win big". I'm beginning to question your college football knowledge.

To answer your question, Alabama will "compete" and/or win this game with defense. The Tide has the number three total defense in the nation and is number one in stopping third down conversions. We're also first in the SEC with time of possession. And believe this, if there is one thing the Tide is going to do to win this game: WE WILL KEEP THE BALL AS LONG AS WE F*%$ING CAN!

Florida hasn't seen a defense like Alabama's this year and they haven't faced a coach as good as Saban. Also, like I said in my last diatribe, Alabama hasn't lost. Everyone on ESPN, Sports Illustrated the Watch... has been kissing Florida's ass the past six games, but don't down play a team that has literally played the same teams and hasn't lost to any of them! There's a reason for that. They believe.

Here is what Houston Nutt, the one coach who has played both teams, beat one, and has been in the SEC a long time had to say (from Rivals.com):

"Alabama is solid. That is the one word to describe them. They can run the ball, because they have an outstanding offensive line," Nutt said. "They have big, strong, fast guys and they are physical. They will run right at you. They have solid backs in Coffee, Upchurch and Grant, but Coffee is the guy. Wilson doesn't make mistakes. He is going to throw it to his guys and especially to Julio Jones. And Julio is a difference maker."

"Defensively is where they are at another level," Nutt said of UA. "Nick Saban is best at zeroing in on what you do offensively first and taking that away. He will make you try to play left-handed by taking away your best plays. He will give you some complicated coverages with Johnson at safety. They are so solid defensively they will make you go the long, hard way."

Houston on Florida from rivals.com:

"Florida is flashy and has speed. Harvin is a difference maker that can change the game. Just an exciting, fast offensive and you have to cover responsibilities with the option game. He has a triple threat going there," Nutt said

Traditionally Alabama is one of the best football teams in college history and after going to Tuscaloosa this weekend and seeing Alabama destroy its archrival in Bryant Denny, these kids believe in themselves and their coach and they will do anything to win.

Could Flordia win, maybe, but I don't believe it. The tide will control the ball, physically whip them on both sides of the ball and will stop there running game. Let's not forget about Wilson, who is playing his best football in five years. Don't forget Saban and his staff have had over three weeks to prepare for this game and he'll have one hell of a game plan. I have a feeling you'll see Tebow on his back and often. Having Cody at noseguard will force Florida to double team him and ultimately will screw up there running game and force them to play differently. You got a love a 6'5" 365 lineman who's quick and mean.

And Gus where I disagree with you most is the fact that you don't think Alabama even has a chance. It sounds like, if it were up to you we shouldn't even have this game. But I also like that you underestimate us, along with everybody else. We're ten point underdogs and after starting the season at #24 in the AP poll, we've been underrated all along. That is an advantage I really like. "Forget about Alabama, don't worry, they don't score a whole lot, they're bound to lose...

Talk soon,

Bryan
