Jack Rebney's new documentary, Winnebago Man, chronicles Jack Rebney's unknowingly carving a path to stardom during a Winnebago sales video shoot in 1988, where his wildly funny and temperamental antics stunned fellow cast and crew members.
Soon after the event, an outtakes reel emerged that was passed among crew members and their friends. Eventually, the tape fell into the hands of tape collectors and dubs of Rebney’s outrageous outtakes began circulating nationwide. In 2005, the fledgling YouTube catapulted Rebney to cult hero status, with the  footage of his incendiary outbursts now considered the first and funniest viral videos.
Winnebago Man follows director Ben Steinbauer as he tracks down this self-proclaimed “grumpiest man on earth” in an unexpectedly poignant tale of one man’s response to a meteoric rise from obscurity to celebrity.
Winnebago Man screens Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., part of the Reel Time Series at The Radio Room, 1310 Ute Ave., in Grand Junction. Call 970/241-8801 for info.
