OURAY – Democratic candidate for governor John Hickenlooper came through Ouray in a snowstorm on Monday with his ‘GiddyUp ‘n’ Vote’ bus tour.

Ouray Mayor Bob Risch waited to greet Denver’s mayor as the bus attempted to turn around in the Sixth Ave. slush. (The bus driver got her chains on and the bus turned around before the rally was over.)

Traveling with Hickenlooper were lieutenant governor candidate Joe Garcia, Congressman John Salazar, State Senator Bruce Whitehead, and District 58 candidate Wes Perrin.

Brew pub entrepreneur Hickenlooper (he opened the Wynkoop Brewing Co. in downtown Denver in 1988) spoke with supporters at Ouray’s newly opened Ouray Brewery and declared the house India Pale Ale “excellent” before heading south over the passes to Durango.

Congressman Salazar made sure to single out Pricilla Peters, owner of Ridgway’s Cimarron Bookstore and Coffeehouse, and stalwart booster of Colorado Democrats.
