Now that it’s had a home for almost a year now at the Livery Playhouse in Norwood, Arts, Community and Education of Norwood (ACE) is providing West End residents with a spectrum of all things art throughout the year including theater, kids programs, music, special holiday classes, and more.

ACE is a Norwood-based consortium of artists that promotes and inspires a passion for the arts, existing to provide opportunities for those of all ages and income levels to learn new skills in any form throughout the year. It has been less than a year since ACE moved into The Livery (located at the end of Lucerne, one block north of Norwood’s main street) and in that short time has become a pillar of Norwood’s artistic community. From masquerade balls to Shakespeare, sewing classes to music festivals, ACE of Norwood has had something for everyone this past year. And, of course, the fun and learning doesn’t stop there.

On Wednesday, Dec. 20-Friday, Dec. 22, Norwood artist Margie Huebner will teach a Silk Painting Class. It will cover the entire process from creating the frame to the techniques of silk painting, including the Serti Technique, which is where designs are formed with gutta or water-based resists that are applied to stretched white silk. Once the gutta has dried, it acts as a barrier for dye or paint, keeping the color within the outlined areas of the design. This technique allows sharply defined borders. This class is available for anyone ages 9 and up and the cost is $30 per student for all three classes.

Further on the horizon, on Wednesday, Jan. 12-Thursday, Jan. 13, Art Goodtimes will hold a Basket-Weaving class; Peg Wood will be scheduling a Beginning Knitting class, as well. Check the ACE’s website, aceofnorwood.com, to stay updated on upcoming classes and events.

Of course, there are ongoing events like the Free Friday Movies, held weekly from 7-9 p.m. For those looking to get active, Melissa Currie is holding Fitness Classes and Zumba Classes regularly (to register for these, call Currie at 327-4865).

To keep the arts and activities alive at The Livery, ACE depends on the support from its members and donations. ACE of Norwood is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Checks can be sent to P.O. Box 653, Norwood, CO., 81423.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of ACE of Norwood can go to its website, aceofnorwood.org and click the membership tab. This is a convenient, PayPal-verified way to become a member for as little as $25. ACE members help the nonprofit bring programs to The Livery and helps students with scholarships to classes that ACE hosts.

See you at The Livery!
