West End Jobs Bulletin Board Now Has a Website

PARADOX – West End Jobs, a nonprofit organization created to circulate information about job opportunities and service businesses in the west ends of Mesa, Montrose, San Miguel and Dolores Counties, now has a website (westendjobs.org). Funded only by donations and grants and staffed by volunteers, organizers are soliciting link suggestions.

The website features help-wanted ads, collected from around the Western Slope, including local newspapers with online ads, Craig's List and a Facebook page, in a single place. It features a “yellow pages” for construction and other services, as well as links to local chambers of commerce, business directories, community demographics, sites providing both private and government job assistance and to local educational opportunities.

West End Jobs has set up bulletin boards for posting everything from business cards to help-wanted notices, in Norwood, Clark's Market, east wall; Redvale, Community Center, front wall; Naturita, Family Market, east wall; Nucla, Fruita Coop, inside corridor; Paradox School and Library, front wall; and Dove Creek Superette, front wall.
For anyone using this service, organizers ask that they remove any postings that are oversized or that are not job related, such as fliers for events, yard sales, classes, lost pets, etc. To donate to the project, there is a PayPal “Donate” on the website. 

The project is a nonprofit public service, enabled by the Paradox Strengthening Communities Fund, established to centralize and circulate information about jobs in the west end.

Telluride Marshals Explain Parking, Code Enforcement and More

TELLURIDE – The Telluride Marshal’s Department’s Citizens Advisory Board meets Tuesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. in Rebekah Hall. Officers will discuss why they town loses one-half of available parking, Nov. 1-April 1; why cars “parked” at Shandoka Oct. 31 are not to be found there five months later, and more. Specific topics will include center-lane parking, idling, roundabout etiquette and speeding. All are encouraged to attend.

SMPA Seeks Proposals for Renewable Energy Projects 

RIDGWAY – The San Miguel Power Association, Inc., seeks proposals for the design and construction of renewable energy projects to be located within the co-op’s service territory, and will accept two groups of proposals: for projects sized 50 kilowatts to 500 kilowatts, or for 500 kilowatts to 2 megawatts.

Developers interested in submitting a proposal must be able to demonstrate experience in the design and construction of renewable projects and provide proof of their competency. SMPA also asks that developers be familiar with the co-op’s interconnection requirements; s. Bids will be evaluated by SMPA’s board of directors. The board will select projects that best fit with the co-op’s strategic vision and are beneficial to the membership. The board reserves the right to accept or reject any or all proposals.

“San Miguel Power is interested in exploring opportunities to develop renewable energy in our own backyard,” said SMPA General Manager Kevin Ritter. “We’re asking our members to put their passion for renewable energy to work. We’re looking for practical, economical, and safe projects that will add local renewable power to our energy mix.”

Proposals must be submitted to SMPA before April 22 (SMPA is not responsible for late submissions due to mail delays, and late submissions will not be considered). Proposals can be mailed to or dropped off at the following addresses.

Ouray County Fair Theme Winners Are…

OURAY – Ouray County 4-H members Sarah Richmond and Bryan Felberg submitted the award-winning theme for this year’s Ouray County Fair, which is Rocky Mountain High, Round Up. They will share the $25 cash prize for their entries from the Ouray County Fair Board.

Now, with the selection of the 2011 theme, all county children grades K-12 and all county 4-H members are invited to submit their drawing(s) representing this year’s theme to the Fair Board. The winning drawing gets a $50 cash prize and will be featured on the front cover of this year’s Ouray County Fair Book.

All drawings must be entered on standard 8.5-by11” sheets, and must be portraits, in orientation. The fair theme needs to be included and legible in the picture. The artist’s name and grade should be on lower right side. Pencil only; no colors or crayons. All entries must be submitted by May 2, 2011, and can be turned in to a Ridgway or Ouray school office, or dropped off at the Ouray County Fairgrounds office in Ridgway, or delivered to any Ouray County Fair Board member.

Turkey Hunting Seminar Saturday

MONTROSE – The Colorado Division of Wildlife and the National Wild Turkey Federation hosts an expert seminar Saturday, March 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Lion's Park Club House, 602 North East Nevada Ave. 
“Montrose is ground zero for great turkey hunting,” said Tony Bonacquista, a district wildlife manager in Nucla. “You can go in every direction from Montrose and find birds, if you know what you're doing.”
The turkey hunting season is six weeks long, running from April 9-May 22. The seminar is limited to 50 people; the cost is $10 with lunch included. To register, call 970/252-6000 or go to the DOW's Montrose Service Center at 2300 S. Townsend Ave.
