The couple met 35 years ago in Nashville, where they lived and worked in the music industry. They first visited the Western Slope in 1988, and now call Ridgway home. Their wide-ranging musical, and marital, journey forms the core of their show, “The Adventures of Rodeo and Juliet,” which promoters say provides “a perfect evening for singles and couples alike.” The concert is presented by the Ouray County Performing Arts Guild.
Christopher Dwight and Janet Lee Harris are still “hanging in through the good, bad and the ugly,” according to a release from OCPAG. The “intimate acoustic” concert on Valentines Day will be a program of original songs as well as a few favorite covers from the 1930s to 1960s. Jan has a love for smoky ballads from the 1940s. Chris admires The Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. They will also tell a few war stories from their years of working in every corner of the music industry, with artists such as Ray Charles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Loretta Lynn, Kristin Chenoweth, Dolly Parton and even The Chipmunks.
In the early years, while Jan sang background vocals on records, toured the U.S. with Amy Grant, and raised their two sons, Chris was writing and producing and singing national commercials, and working with legendary recording artists. That led to producing and singing on country, pop and gospel records.
Since returning to Colorado, they were honored to sing the National Anthem at one of last summer’s Rockies games. They’ve learned to keep it fun, laugh at life, laugh at each other, and not get bogged down with the little things. They are riding the rest of their days as “The Adventures of Rodeo and Juliet” wherever life takes them, and right now, it’s Ouray County.
