The American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days has been supported nationally since 1973 and locally for over 12 years by dedicated volunteers and residents of our area.
Dollars raised Wednesday-Friday enable the American Cancer Society to offer free programs and services that help people fight cancer with courage and optimism. San Miguel and Ouray County residents have an ACS-supported women’s Cancer Support Group that meets the second Tuesday of the month, at 5 p.m., in Telluride’s Wilkinson Public Library. (Call Lindsey Walker for more information about this local support group (970) 729-0124.)
The ACS provides a free, 24/7 cancer information line 800/ 227-2345 addressing multiple aspects of fighting the disease in its many forms. The ACS call center is staffed by highly trained Cancer Information Specialists, supported by registered oncology nurses and other medical professionals. Residents of San Miguel County visited the American Cancer Society's website, www.cancer.org 401 times in 2011. This website provides cancer resources, support and cancer research information, and notices of ACS events and activities. The regional Cancer Resource Center in Durango provides wigs, scarves, hats and other patient needs, and has arranged free lodging for regional patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Daffodils are still available in the following locations while supplies last:
