It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of John Pierce Donley III of Montrose, Colorado. John passed on from this life to everlasting life with his heavenly father on Tuesday evening, August 14th following an unexpected heart attack. John was a State Farm Insurance Agent in the Montrose community for the last 15 years and made his home there with his wife Jill, his son Pierce and his daughter, Tate. John previously resided in Florida and Texas after graduating from the University of Wyoming with an Accounting degree in 1985. In college he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic society and was a very accomplished student. John was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and shared many dear friendships around the country from his college days. John was involved in a local Navigators sponsored, Christian Men’s Fellowship group.
Born on June 3, 1962 and raised in Greeley, Colorado, John is the son of Sandra Donley of Greeley and former Colorado State Senator John P. Donley II, deceased. John was a true lover of life and enjoyed a very wide variety of interests. He was a talented musician who played the piano and guitar and enjoyed writing and scoring his own music. He was a truly gifted writer, a historian, an outdoorsman and sportsman. John loved to travel the country with his family, as well as prepare meals for them and all of their friends. Above all, he was devout in his faith and truly strived to walk with the Lord at all times. John was a highly intelligent man who made friends easily and loved to laugh. John also loved the ocean and enjoyed saltwater fishing, driving his own boat and a cold beer on a hot day on the water. Deeply committed to his family, John was so very proud of their success and accomplishments and built his life around service to them and others. He was a free spirit who lived life to the fullest and remained a curious and learned soul all of his days.
