What with the election and illness in the family, it’s been a challenging harvest at Cloud Acre. I’ve worked two weeks and only dug up three rows of spuds. I have 10 more to go. And the weather keeps getting colder. But it’s been a great year for fruits and vegetables. I got a half-dozen bushels of macintosh apples off my three trees this year (planted them almost 30 years ago). And have gotten 3-5 pounds of potatoes per mound for some species like my Survival Reds and Snow Whites. Pink Eyes and All Reds did well too, although the purple Big Petes were a big disappointment.

I’m hoping to make it around door-to-door as much as I can before November to talk politics. But if I miss you, please call me at 327-4767, if you want to talk or get together. I know it’s been a bit challenging to catch the debates. But I think it’s important that you hear all the candidates in person, if you want to make an informed choice about who’ll best serve you in county government for the next four years.

I know one of my opponents thinks the county ought to get into the marketing business, but I’m happy to leave it in the hands of professionals like Michael Martelon of the Telluride Tourism Board, which just won a 2012 Governor’s Award for Outstanding Marketing Program for its Summer of Love promotion at the annual Colorado Tourism Conference in Steamboat Springs.
