TELLURIDE – This weekend’s Telluride Americana Music Fest and Songwriter Showcase kicks off with Eric Brace and Peter Cooper, two Grammy-nominated writers from Nashville who feature great harmonies and storytelling tonight and, for the second set, Monte Warden and Greg Jacobs.
The Austin-based Warden fronted the iconic Texas band The Wagoneers starting in the 1980s; he has more recently written hits for George Strait, Kelly Willis, and Patty Loveless. Jacobs is from Stillwater, Oklahoma and has worked with and mentored many "Red Dirt" musicians from Jimmy LaFave to John Fullbright.
More Austin musicians fill the bill Friday, including Texas troubadour Hayes Carll, accompanied by Kym Warner, mandolin player for The Greencards. Lincoln Durham, the young acoustic roots/blues phenom who is building a reputation in the States as well as Europe, opens that show.
Saturday features John Fullbright, an Oklahoman who is one of the most heralded young songwriters in the country (whose recent album, From the Ground Up, was nominated for a Grammy this year), followed by Tift Merritt, another Grammy nominee.
Tickets are available at www.sheridanoperahouse.com. Single night tickets are $35 (Thursday), $40 (Friday), and $45 (Saturday), with a limited number of three-day passes with preferred seating also available.
