TELLURIDE – As a Certified Meeting Planner for over 10 years, Carla Buchborn has planned hundreds of meeting and events for her clients. But this weekend in Telluride, she will get the chance to play a different role, leaving the details and logistics to someone else. Buchborn and other highly qualified meeting planners will be in Telluride for the Colorado Destinations Summit, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, an event for members of Meeting Planners International (MPI).

This high profile group of meeting planners, which represents large companies including the Rainmaker Companies, The Lane Group and H.D. Vest Financial Services, will learn about the benefits of hosting a corporate event or meeting in Telluride. Hotel Madeline is hosting the group.

Their itinerary includes tours of group lodging facilities and the Telluride Conference Center, a lunch at San Sophia overlook, a scavenger hunt through Telluride and Mountain Village and dining at local restaurants including Rev, Allred’s and La Piazza. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore on their own.

The Telluride Tourism Board’s Group Sales department entered a competitive bidding process to secure this high profile group, which could translate into a significant boost for group business.

“This is a huge opportunity for us,” said Sarah McLean, senior group sales manager for the TTB.  “We are very excited that the Colorado Destination Summit selected Telluride to host this high profile group of meeting planners. It will give us the chance to showcase Telluride as an ideal destination for large meetings and corporate events. We know that this group is going to be blown away by Telluride and all that it has to offer.”

Sponsorship opportunities for MPI are available. If interested, contact Mackenzie Hollas at 970/369-2124.

Immediately following MPI, Telluride will host the Colorado Governor’s Tourism Conference Oct. 2-4.  Held by the Colorado Tourism Office, 300-400 tourism and hospitality professionals will come to Telluride from across the state for educational seminars and state tourism updates.
