Proceeds Go to Help Homeless Families Transition to Permanent Housing
MONTROSE – Since opening in early 2011, the Haven House has helped hundreds of people, including 100 children, giving them a place to stay for the night. About 25,000 shelter nights, to be exact. Now, the nonprofit needs help from the community in order to keep its doors open.
To that end, Haven House is hosting a Harvest Property fundraiser Sunday, Oct. 13, 1-4 p.m., at the Montrose Manor, on 60169 LaSalle Rd.
Haven House, located just north of Olathe at 4806 North River Road, is a faith-based organization providing a variety of programs designed to help faltering families get back into permanent housing and on a path to self sufficiency, while keeping their kids in school and out of trouble.
It’s the organization’s second fundraiser this year. Executive Director Larry Fredericksen said all monies raised from the fundraiser will go towards homeless families in the region.
Haven House offers a lot more than shelter, Fredericksen pointed out, including everything from “enrichment programs” to job-hunting coaching to providing resources for its residents looking for permanent work.
It also helps families save money for permanent housing once they are ready to leave Haven House itself, where all residents are required to be drug- and alcohol-free.
In addition to monetary gifts, Fredericksen said, Haven House is seeking donated vehicles for use by residents when job-hunting in the area.
