MOUNTAIN VILLAGE – A 35-inch snow base on opening day and a snowy December forecast is enough to excite most skiers in Telluride. But Condé Nast Traveler readers spiced up opening day in Telluride by ranking the Telluride Ski Resort as the best ski resort in North America for a second year in a row.
Condé Nast Traveler readers ranked ski resorts based on hotels, terrain, lifts, lines and aprés-ski events. This is the third year in a row that Telluride ranked within the poll’s top three slots. Readers also ranked nine Telluride and Mountain Village hotels in the top 50 ski hotels in North America, with the Fairmont Heritage Place and Hotel Telluride ranked in the top ten.
“This always creates tremendous attention,” said Michael Martelon, CEO and president of the Telluride Tourism Board. “It’s more important for the readers to award you than the editors, because the readers vary in ski ability and what they want out of a ski resort,” he added.
Condé Nast Traveler attracts readers belonging to a niche market of wealthy travelers. Each year, the magazine conducts a survey to discover the most favored destinations. The magazine’s reader poll adds to a positive start for the 2013-2014 ski season, which has already seen more than 60 inches of snowfall, and forecasts for a snowy December ahead.
The early snowfall and promising forecasts have many hotels in Telluride and Mountain Village reporting higher year-on-year advanced bookings for December.
