Editor:

As a 45-year resident of the West End of San Miguel County and 20 years prior to that in the West End of Montrose County, I sincerely hope Senate Bill 84 is passed by the State Legislature changing the way counties of less than 70,000 elect commissioners. It is only right that the voters residing in that commissioner’s district can elect that commissioner.

It would be great if Wright’s Mesa voters could finally elect their own commissioner, rather than Telluride electing him for us. I disagree with Joan May, who believes it would make the board “territorial” as the board is now extremely territorial and that territory is Telluride. I am “over” being told by county government that Telluride and the ski resort are the economic engine that keep us on Wright’s Mesa alive so we should remain subservient.

I, among many others, was live, living here and prospering long before the ski resort ever existed.
