Editor:

I had the opportunity to go up and see Colorado Department of Transportation’s operations dealing with the continuous rockslide at highway 550 Mile Marker 92-87. They are doing a tremendous job in a very dangerous setting. They are working very long and hard hours to try and get the road open as quick as possible. In watching their efforts and seeing the huge task they had before them, I can honestly say I believe that CDOT is doing their absolute best to get the road open as quick and safe as they possibly can. Daily updates on the Rockslide can be found at http://coloradodot.info/news/region5News.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to CDOT for all their efforts. I want to thank them for using the local help of Rigging for Rescue and Silverton Mountain Guides. I want to thank them for all the hours they are putting in. And I want to thank them for everything else they are doing to the get road open and get traffic flowing to Ouray from the south again.

I also want to remind everyone reading this that doesn’t live in Ouray, “Ouray is still open and accessible from the north.”  Please come visit Ouray, grab coffee at your favorite coffeehouse, shop at your favorite store, swim at the pool, and enjoy diner and your favorite restaurant.  For those that do live in Ouray, please come out and support your local businesses.  As we all know, winter is hard for the local businesses and Red Mountain being closed makes it that much more difficult.

Thank you
