OURAY COUNTY – Ouray County Clerk and Recorder Michelle Nauer has announced her intention to run for a sixth term in the 2014 general election this November.

Nauer and her staff of four manage an array of duties, all required by rule or statute, including processing motor vehicle titles and registrations, archiving permanent county real estate records, handling multiple elections annually, issuing marriage licenses, processing birth and death certificates and acting as Clerk to the Board of Commissioners.

“The office is always busy with many diverse responsibilities,” Nauer said. “It is far from boring and always challenging. If re-elected, I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Ouray County for another four years.”

In addition to her duties in Ouray County, Nauer is the Chair of the Western Region Clerks and a member of the executive board of the Colorado County Clerks Association. She actively participates in various committees associated with these organizations, and keeps tabs on proposed legislation affecting clerks throughout Colorado. She also acts as a mentor for new clerks in neighboring counties.

Nauer moved to Ouray in 1981 and soon began working as a deputy clerk for Ouray County’s former longtime clerk, the late Addie Sim. After six years, Nauer left her position with Ouray County to work for the Colorado Department of Revenue, teaching and training in all aspects of the motor vehicle computer applications throughout Colorado.  Additionally, she installed hardware, helped improve bookkeeping procedures and maintained computer systems in the 30-plus Department of Motor Vehicle offices on the Western Slope. Nauer successfully ran for Ouray County Clerk in 1994, and has held the position ever since.

Nauer lives in the Idlewild subdivision north of Ouray with her younger son Brendon who is a freshman in Ouray High School.  Her elder son, Mitchell, now lives in Denver. Nauer also spends much of her time with her partner JD Hazen and her basset hound, Dexter. Nauer attends the Ouray Baptist Church. She has been involved in many different volunteer organizations over the years, and was named “Woman of the Year” by the Woman’s Club of Ouray County 10 years ago.
