MONTROSE – A two-car accident at the intersection of Townsend and Grand Avenues injured three people Thursday evening and closed the intersection for a short time. The report came in about 7:15 p.m.

A maroon or red car collided head on into the side of a dark colored Dodge Ram pick-up covering the intersection with debris. Both drivers were treated by Emergency Medical Technicians and transported to Montrose Memorial Hospital. A passenger in the pick-up was also transported.

Officer Robbie Satterly of the Montrose Police Department said he was at the intersection investigating another accident when he "heard the tires screech and saw the impact" from the car slamming into the side of the truck.

Satterly said the red car was driven by a juvenile, who was at fault for failing to yield the right-of-way and was transported by parents to the emergency room.

The condition and severity of injuries to those involved is not known.

Satterly said many concerned residents who witnessed the accident responded to help along with deputies from the Montrose County Sheriff's Office.

"It was a total team effort," he said.

The intersection of Townsend and Grand, otherwise known as the San Juan By-pass, was reopened at 8:12 p.m.
