With mixed feelings I announce today that I will not be running for a second term as Mayor of Telluride.  My reasons are personal and involve the need and desire to spend more time with my family and friends. I have thoroughly enjoyed the many challenges of serving as Telluride’s mayor for the past four years, and I am humbled and honored to have been entrusted with such a tremendous responsibility. But, for now, it is time for me to step aside and let others – who also care deeply for this outstanding community – serve.

I will miss working with my fellow council members and with Telluride’s hard-working town staff. We have accomplished a great deal in our tenure together, most notably, of course, we have fought with great conviction and clear purpose to protect The Valley Floor as Open Space forever and have also forged a cooperative relationship with Mountain Village, the County and Telski.  These are all great accomplishments, and I am proud of our successes.

As the next few weeks are the time for our residents to pick up petitions to get on Town Council, I encourage anyone who really wants to make a difference to step up and lend a hand by running for public office. Please consider doing your part in continuing to strengthen this remarkable town.

In closing I want to thank all of you for placing your trust in me, and I hope that this open, inclusive and ethically clean form of government we now have in place will continue – with a new leader – who will serve with inspired vision to ensure a fulfilling future for Telluride.

Thank you again for entrusting me to be your mayor,

Most sincerely,

– Mayor John Pryor
