A philosopher once said: “It’s hard enough to remember my opinions without also having to remember my reasons for them.” Lynn Padgett presents no such problem.
When I was a member of the County Planning Commission, I spent hours preparing before each meeting, believing I had to be the one who knew the most about the issues (OK, so I’m compulsive). Lynn arrived at her first meeting with the commission as prepared as I was. She needed almost no learning curve – she had become familiar with the code and that day’s issues. Each meeting thereafter during the years I worked with her, Lynn continued to improve on this quality of input.
Perhaps more impressive was her ability to integrate the intricacies of the land use code with the concepts of the master plan (the guiding vision for Ouray County) in a way that was both technically sound and consistent with what people who live here want. This is no easy task, but Lynn was so competent and reasonable that her suggestions became a gold standard during our discussions.
I left the planning commission two and one-half years ago, but I have watched Lynn volunteer to serve the county in a number of additional ways. I continue to be inspired by her willingness to give so much of her self, and impressed by her inclusive approach to problems.
Simply stated, I do not know of one person who has walked away from a discussion in which Lynn was involved who felt or claimed that Lynn was uninformed, lacking in perspective or unreasonable. She is a team player who works towards consensus, while remaining faithful to her own position. That is how I define leadership.
I hope you will join me in supporting Lynn Padgett for county commissioner. I know you will be glad you did.
