My name is Terry Tice and with this statement I am announcing my candidacy for mayor of Telluride.

My wife, Susan and I moved to this valley 35 years ago. We raised our family here. On our arrival we founded Telluride Trappings and Toggery, which we owned and operated for the succeeding 32 years before passing the business along to two of our employees. They continue the store’s operation today. I am at a point in my life where I can make a serious commitment to our governmental process.

Over my time here, in addition to growing my business, I became integrally involved in community affairs. I was elected to Town Council four times, serving a total of nine years. I chaired the Home Rule Charter Commission, and was chosen president of the R-1 School District Board of Education. In 2003 the Telluride Foundation named me as Citizen of the Year. Recently I lent my efforts to fundraising for Valley Floor Preservation Partners, and now serve on that board of directors.

I have always carried a vision of Telluride as a unique and cutting-edge community. That notion helped guide my participation in many of the decisions shaping our current reality. The successful civic environment we enjoy today did not happen by accident. Many of us worked hard and struggled long to get here. A thread in the history of my many years of community service connects the dots that have led to the present nature of our town.

Throughout my public participation, I have endeavored to uphold a reputation for fairness, honesty, integrity, and independence. As far as I know, politically I’ve burned no bridges, taken no prisoners, nor been held hostage. I have maintained the respect of my friends, colleagues and neighbors; their current influence and support have been vital in my decision to seek the office of mayor. I believe I have demonstrated proven management skills and a passion in all that I have undertaken. Now I hope to provide the benefit of my experience along with a reasoned and analytical leadership style that will move us forward.

In Telluride there is always important community work to do. Much is still at stake. During the course of the campaign I will communicate clearly and openly where I stand on issues and seek to understand your beliefs and concerns.

We’ve come a long way together, let’s collectively meet the future.
