Our beloved Dixie Keithly of Ridgway peacefully passed away on Sunday June 9 at 2:06 a.m. in her Solar Ranch home with friends beside her, at age 82. Dixies’s vitality, uniqueness, and positive approach to life touched so many lives here and in California, where she was born.

In her mid 20s she was an elementary school teacher, a realtor and had her pilot’s license. A true trailblazer for the time. Dixie became a radio DJ for KKUP in Santa Clara, Calif., discussing the topic of alternative medicine and conducting interviews with prominent writers and practitioners as an advocate on the subject reaching out to a wide audience. Here, she continued to maintain and monitor an “Alternative Therapy Hot Line” for a time with her motto of  “Your Health, Your Choice” on a one-on-one basis.

A cancer survivor for over 20 years, Dixie was a longtime member and supporter of the Cancer Victors, a strong loving support group located in California.

Many know Dixie to be passionate about her daily two-mile river walk, her birding, her flower garden, viewing of the mountains, Big Band music, the hot springs, and gratitude for just being in what she called her beautiful “Ridgway Paradise.” Some of her greatest gifts were her unfailing love for others, sharing her survival story and offering her approach to health.

Dixie’s quirky personality, vitality and celebration for life made her a dynamic force of nature in our Ridgway community and the Universe at large.

Dixie is survived by her brother James Hilton, sister Kathy Ward and Alicia Leal, who is new to the Ridgway community. She will be missed and remembered by many.

True to this nature of giving her all, there will be no interment service as she has donated her body to science.

For Dixie’s untold friends from all walks of life, there will be a memorial gathering in Hartwell Town Park, at the gazebo on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m. for those to wish to celebrate her life together as a community.
